EBOLA VIRUS

1. EBOLA IS A DEADLY INFECTION

Ebola is a deadly infection that shows up between 2 and 21 days after one is infected. it damages the immune system. It damages body organs all these will happen in weeks. It mostly results in death up to 90%. Cases have been recorded in these African countries: Congo (DRC), Sudan, Gabon, cote d’ voire, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone, 1 case in Nigeria.

2. EBOLA DOES NOT KILL EVERYONE THAT GETS INFECTED

Not all persons that had got infected with the disease resulted in death. There had been cases where some patients did not die as a result. Scientists do not really know why that happened, but the explanation is that their body immune system was able to fight it somehow. Know that fatality is up to 90%.

3. EBOLA IS TRANSMITTTED FROM ANIMAL HOSTS TO HUMANS.

Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are considered to be the natural host of the Ebola virus. Hypsignathus monstrosus, Epomops franqueti and Myonycteris torquata, are considered possible natural hosts for Ebola virus. As a result, the geographic distribution of Ebola viruses may overlap with the range of the fruit bats. If a human subject contracts it and gets sick, anyone that gets in contact with the human gets infected. However, the location and natural habitat of the virus has not been found. Scientists say it would be somewhere in the forest.

4. EBOLA VIRUS CAN BE TRANSMITTED EASILY

Ebola can be transmitted in the following ways:
– Secretions- urine, stool, sweat, saliva, semen
– secretion on clothing of the infected person
– needles and syringes that was used on the infected person.

Infection has been documented through the handling of infected chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead in the rain-forest.

Ebola then spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluids. Burials in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola. Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to 7 weeks after recovery from illness.

5. EBOLA VIRUS HAS SYMPTOMS OF COMMON ILLNESSES

Ebola is also known as Ebola Hemorrhaging fever, from that name, here are some of the symptoms of the virus on an infected person:
-fever: common cold
-headache
-joint and muscle aches
-sore throat
-weakness

Ebola-virus

As the incubation period reaches advanced stages:
-Diarrhea
-vomiting
-stomach pain
-hiccups
-rash
-Trouble breathing
-Impaired kidney and liver function
-low white blood cell and platelet counts and elevated liver enzymes
-bleeding internally and externally- the bleeding occurs because Ebola causes damage of blood-clotting cells, called platelets, which can lead to severe bleeding.

6. THERE ARE NO PREVENTION OR CURE VACCINE

Developing a vaccine against Ebola viruses is ongoing. The inability to successfully locate the origin of the virus makes it hard to make an antivirus. Successful vaccines have been developed that work in experimental animals (mice and guinea pigs but not against macaques monkeys). With new and larger outbreaks of Ebola hemorrhagic fever possible, researchers are intensely working to develop an effective vaccine utilizing genetically modified viruses, recombinant viruses, and inactivated Ebola viruses. Unfortunately, none are currently available.

7. EBOLA CAN BE PREVENTED

The wearing of protective clothing, such as masks, gloves, gowns, and goggles, the use of infection-control measures, including complete equipment sterilization and the isolation of Ebola HF patients from contact with unprotected persons. The aim of all of these techniques is to avoid any person’s contact with the blood or secretions of any patient. If a patient with Ebola HF dies, it is equally important that direct contact with the body of the deceased patient be prevented. The isolation of patients with Ebola hemorrhagic fever from contact with unprotected people

For now we can avoid eating game (bush meat) because these animals migrate.

8. EBOLA CAN BE MANAGED

Supportive therapy is available, which includes maintaining proper fluid and electrolyte balance, maintaining blood pressure and oxygen levels, and treating complicating infections. While there are currently no treatments or vaccines against Ebola available for clinical use, there are some researches going on and some are being tested on selected animals.
These supportive therapies are meant to keep the patient alive for as long as possible in case their immune system would be able to fight it.

Protect Yourself!

I had to write this article because of the rate at which Ebola virus is spreading in Africa. Recently there was a reported case in Lagos Nigeria. I live in Nigeria so i have to educate.

If nothing else comes up, we will continue our conversation on brain training.

Thank you!

Hi guys, i have always said that i WIll talk about brain training in relation to self-development. it is going to be a long set of articles. i will make it as simple and easy to understand as possible.

In this article, i will introduce you to what brain training is and why you need to teach our brain to perform only the tasks you want it to perform.

An obedient brain is a brain that has been taught through discipline, perseverance and awareness of self. We are all born with certain tendencies. these tendencies are not permanent. they can be altered.

First, the brain is just a tool that coordinates human processes. Note that what it controls are processes not the thoughts that create the signals that brains pick up to turn to processes. the brain is a slave to MIND.

Have you ever noticed that there is no mention of the brain in the bible?

MIND controls your thought processes, you control your mind, your mind controls your brain. You are in total control of your MIND, you decide what enters and what stays out. That little analysis tells you that since you control your mind [and the mind controls the brain] you can be in total control of your actions, because what you do now is as a result of what you allowed your mind to take in so you can decide to REMOVE, REPLACE, RETAIN what is already in your mind which in turn affects your actions.

Training your brain using your mind is the only way to be a better human. it is like teaching your kid to stop bed-wetting, everything you do is focused on making the kid’s brain remember, every time he is in bed, that he is not in the toilet. What happens with an undisciplined brain is that when it is supposed to act, it forgets because it is not disciplined.

if you have a temper, what happens is that when issues that make you angry come up, your brain associates them with anger, so you get angry. A brain disciplined against anger still associates those events but REMEMBERS it must not send anger signals to the carrier. The carrier probably will smile instead of getting angry.

Note though, the brain in itself is civil. It’s absolutely rational. expressively calculating in its reflexes.

i am sure you have an idea of what you will learn in these series of articles. In the next article, we will discuss the brain, the heart, the mind. how you already use them reflexively and their pros and cons. thanks guys for reading.

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT DEVELOPMENT OF SELF BUILDS SELF AWARENESS TO BETTER LIVING.

It is not easy to start a business. It is not easy too to own a business. It is even harder to run a successful business.
Daily challenges can drain your passion, your focus,  most of all your thinking strength.

image

Discipline can assist you with accomplishing these 5 points-
1. HAVE A WAKE UP TIME. IT is not compulsory for you to have a definite sleep time but you definitely must have a wake up time. If you do, you will sleep confidently knowing that you will wake up when you wake up.
Having a wake up time without the use of alarm clocks will help you sleep longer and deeper.
Train your mind clock to wake you.

I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT BRAIN TRAINING ONE OF THESE DAYS

2. EXERCISE. When you wake up, it is best to do little exercise to activate and increase blood flow into the brain. It gives you inner energy to run your day without tiring out.

3. WORK HARD, NOT LONG. If you work for a company, this might not be possible. Company owners follow the trend of working long and hard. Those two don’t work together.
If you own your business, always take a break. Trust me, if you work for 8 hours at a stretch, your productive time cannot be more than 20% of that time.
Pick time in your mind when you ll take long breaks and short breaks. Your brain reacts to breaks as it will react to rewards for doing something so it will work more efficiently, knowing you will soon get some rest.

4. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP ALWAYS. You will face lots of troubles everyday at work. You will have disappointments. You will have failures. Do not ever get tired of solving problems. Challenges must come. You must face them. You don’t have to solve them immediately. Just don’t ever get sick of trying. The more you face those challenges, the more you enjoy your day. The more fulfilling work becomes.

image

5. SOLITUDE. This is not loneliness, it is just a state of being alone. A state of self engagement, self consciousness. It is agreeable, proficient company with ones self.
You need this to conduct a sincere conversation with yourself about your day, about your business, about your life, about how all these affects your family.
After your days work, find a quiet place, sit and stare into the blanks, speak within you. And talk about your failures for the day and your successes. Talk about what you can do about it too.

image

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT DISCIPLINE WILL HELP YOU ACCOMPLISH A LOT IN LIFE!
I am not trying to tell you how to live
I am just saying that self development is a guide to better living.

Its is general belief that money is the end game of every business. Most also believe that if they start a business that earns their needs and wants, they will be happy.
Money shouldn’t be your reason to start a business career and there is no happiness in piling money. What you feel when you earn is just cerebral excitement.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MONEY…
image
1. Don’t ever go into a trade or business because you did your research on current value of entrepreneurs that run that class of business and you saw that they make a lot of money.
You ll be tempted to stop there but don’t. Dig deeper to find out how bad recession in that business could be.
THERE IS NO BUSINESS THAT MAKES MONEY CONSTANTLY.

2. CALCULATE HOW MUCH YOU LL NEED TO KICK OFF.
This include, how much you ll spend in the first set of months after you start the business, before it starts making money.
If its services business, do your math to know all that you ll need. It can be devastating if its after you kick off newly that you start to realize there there s still a lot to do.
image
3. GET A MENTOR
It is not compulsory for this mentor to know that you are under his tutorage. Read about entrepreneurs, tactically choose one that you realize you can understand how he deals with money. You could use them as guide.
Its always better if you get a real mentor you can go to for advice when you are in trouble.

4. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ASSET AND LIABILITY.
I ll just break it down for you. You don’t need to be super educated to know the difference between asset and liability.
Asset brings money into the business while liability takes money out of the business.
Knowing this would assist you decision making process when you want to spend business fund.

IF YOU WANT TO RUN A PROGRESSIVE BUSINESS YOU MUST SPEND MONEY ON ASSETS.

5 .MONEY DOES NOT BRING HAPPINESS
I won’t say much about this now. All I ll say is that if happiness is what you re looking for, getting rich won’t give you. Fulfillment might.
If you successfully run your business to grow, which has nothing to do with how fast it has grown or how much it is making, you will have some satisfaction through sustainable development. ASK YOUR MENTOR ABOUT HAPPINESS.

Keep all these in mind if you want to start a business.
If what you need is money, go get a job.

I am not trying to shape your life
I m just saying that self development leads to better living.

TALENTS TO BETTER LIVING 2

Posted: June 25, 2014 in Uncategorized

In our previous conversation, I explained that talent is relative to environment, exposure, and how adventurous you are. In essence you cannot discover talent in a field you didn’t already explore. ( if you missed it, read it here)
Today, we ll talk about how to combine talent and skills you acquired in relation to the talent you discovered and the passion you have in relation to all these.
The first thing I ‘ll tell you is that being talented is a brain thing. The ability to identify and coordinate events that occur in relation to what you know how to do is totally a brain thing. It is how you train your brain to respond that determines how you ll use these qualities. We ll talk about that later.

I ll list FOUR ways to use talent relative to passion and skill.

1. Knowing that TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH to get ahead anymore should make you want to acquire skills as much as possible, as long as possible. This will help you harness your talent.

2. RELY ON YOUR SKILL SET NOT YOUR TALENT– this will help your professionalism. If you rely on skill, you ll always do things the right way. Then with some little icing that the fact that you are talented will add, you ll stand out.

3. WHEN YOU FAIL, it is your skill set that failed you. If you are passionate about what you do, you will feel really bad when it is pointed out to you. You ll easily make corrections instead of arguing.

4. YOUR PASSION FOR A PARTICULAR COURSE OF LIFE WILL SHOW IN HOW EASILY YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT IT. Don’t ever stop learning.

Know that you shouldn’t ever combine talent and passion alone as a means of getting ahead. They might fail you.
Always combine them with skill. Skill, when properly acquired will definitely not fail you!

We now know that talents are like natural resource, it is the one we explore we discover. We know how to use them to get ahead. We know how to combine skill and passion  with talent.
This is where this series ends.
Next we will go back to the basics.
We ll talk about our brain. And how we can use it. How we can make our brain obey.
Thanks guys. Talk soon.

I M NOT TELLING YOU HOW TO LIVE YOUR LIFE
I M JUST TALKING ABOUT SELF DEVELOPMENT

Talents are gifts that make people stand out in certain fields of life, profession or career.
The good thing is that we are all talented. The problem is that sometimes we overestimate the power that talents have when it comes to professionalism.
Another problem is that sometimes we don’t ever get to engage in that activity we probably are good at. That does not mean we are talentless, it is just lack of adventure.
Each person have more than one talent. The talent you ll probably find out throughout your life is going to be related to your environment, experience or company. You cannot know if you ll be an outstanding writer if you don’t pick a pen, so get out there and try new things!
The moment you find something constructive you enjoy doing, it might be your niche. If it can be transformed to profit then don’t sit back, get additional skill to fuel your passion. (I said in an earlier article that you can develop passion for what you already do. If you missed that article get it here)  That’s when professionalism will express your talent and passion.

image

Your talent would become your job, then work will be like play.
We could go deeper to find out how to use these gifts together, why we don’t really need to discover our talents to get ahead.
We ll all get these answers in future posts.

I M NOT TELLING YOU HOW TO LIVE YOUR LIFE
I M JUST TALKING ABOUT SELF DEVELOPMENT
Till we speak again, DISCOVER YOU!

I wrote earlier about what you need first to succeed in any life course. I talked about staying alive. If you missed it, get it here
.
It is a common thought that people who succeed are the ones who found what they have passion for. It is simply edged into us that we have to do something we have passion for, to be successful and happy.
We indeed take our time to find what ‘ we exactly should do ‘ with our life.

image

Lets think about this: does passion pre-exist birth?
No. Passion for doing something is developed consciously or reflexively through life experiences and exposures. This means that you develop passion for things you already like doing.
All I m saying is don’t go about looking for what you should do with your life, in the name of finding what you have passion for. What you do now is something you can develop passion for and you ll end up loving it.

Keep this in mind though: becoming passionate about your career is easy, keeping it up at all times is hard so always remember that you re in control of your passion and passion is just a tool to let you sail through life, successfully, happily.
We ll speak again soon.

WHICH IS CLEANER?

Posted: June 21, 2014 in Uncategorized

Hi guys, I was working on a post when this came to my thought. This is a thought I had years ago.
These  days, it is very common to see people using straws to take drinks. Some ll say its just because the bottle- neck tip could be dirty.

image

Here is my thought: who is more careful? The retailers in stores, shops, pubs, stands and those hawking or the manufacturers of the drinks.
One thing is that you can easily see the tip of a bottle to notice dirt. Its not the same for the straws. You hardly see the dirt inside it.

image

That said, there are other reasons why you should avoid straws as much as possible.
It could give you TOOTH DECAY. That is because using straws make you leave liquid in your mouth for long so if you take drinks with lots of sugar, you are at risk.
it could cause BLOATING. As you sip, you sip air with the drink so it causes air to fill you up. At the same time it makes you drink more which could be good or bad.
My point is if you should take straws:
1. Take straws that are sealed (in countries where buying in traffic is common, straws are not sealed. Drinking from the bottle might be safer, if you don’t want to contact typhoid)
2. Always remember the first point.

Till we talk again, remember I am not telling you how to live, but that SELF DEVELOPMENT LEADS TO BETTER LIVING!

Something struck me this morning so I want to share.
We all hear we shouldn’t drink and drive, we shouldn’t eat and drive, we shouldn’t sleep and drive. In fact don’t think and drive. You can do all this and drive really, at your own risk though.
My concern is how we use phones  while driving. Its best not to use phones while driving but I guess saying it again is cliché, you won’t listen, so I ll teach you how to text and drive. Its simple really.
PLACE YOUR PHONE ON THE CENTRE OF THE STEERING wheel AND PUNCH

image

.

Don’t ever place your phone around the gear area to use, thinking you are hiding it from police.

image

Placing it on the steering wheel gives you very good viewing angle of your surrounding.

image

You could do this too!
You might still get caught or have an accident but at least you ll see it coming.
This is good practice!

image

We ll talk soon!

The screech of the tyres of an over speeding, drunk driver’s car, as he slams on the brakes to avoid a fatal hit on a 6yr old girl hopping clueless across the road. Her mother was humming oruka ti dowo Na (wedding song) as she steers garri (african food) rhythmically on the fire, the sound of the steerer as it hits the pot compliments her low tones.
She heard the screech, she heard the scream of a child mix with the high tone of the complaining tyres, her voice raised in emotional choir e gba Mi o! (Help)
She raced towards the compilation of sounds, her slippers slapping her heels in a systematic accolade, percussion, that of omele ako and bata.(African drums)
As she ran, her breasts juggled in a silent dance without the sound of shekere.(African drum) Her legs swipe the bush path in such regular frequency that it seemed prearranged. Bats flew away with sound of wind control in fear of sudden intrusion. She reaches the road and sights her child at the other end of the road petrified in front of the car. Her silent scream can be seen in that nights moonlight. The running engine of the car made distant serenade to which the scream of the drunk man’s kuro loju ona (leave the road) added backup to It all.
The woman opened her mouth to link up this acapella…there was a pause….

From every drop of leaf
To every sneeze of kids
Music in every sound

At that train station, sound of a train as it gallops frequently along its expansion joints, making gbagagbaga gbagagbaga like the talking drum. People gather to enter as soon as it gets to the station. The intense noise becomes loud hum from afar.
As they rushed, a man fell and as he opened his mouth to scream…there was a pause…
As the flag is raised at 6am in the barrack morning. The beagle is blown.     As soothingly cold morning breeze slaps the flag’s fly, it claps back making merry with the sound of the beagle. The commandant marches over and stomps his shoes, raps, attention! Stand at ease!
A mosquito starts buzzing around the commandant, singing violinic to his ears. He was at attention and as he raised his hand to slap the mosquito hard against himself…there was a pause…
Then the obvious music starts!
There is rthym in every voice
There is music in every word
Music in every sound.

Never let your life pass without music
Suck it from every sound you hear
There is only one option
The way through!
